DESCRIPTION: In the mega-selling tradition of The Dreamer's Dictiorary  comes a comprehensive, contemporary guide to undertanding dreams and the unconscious mind.  With over 3,000 symbols and a 6-step guide to applying their definitions to one's life, this is the ultimate guide for today's dreamer.

We live in a world of sensory overload, and people's dreams have come to reflect that complexity. Not only do people dream that they are standing naked in a room full of their peers, but nowadays dreams might involve standing naked in the middle of a conference room, with a cell phone in one hand and an incoming call from Donald Trump. What's that all about?

I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM... will answer such questions and help readers break down the meaning of their dreams. 21st century dreamers will finally have the tools they need to tap into the power of their dreams in order to become more productive, powerful, and peaceful human beings.

  • Dreams and dream interpretation are subjects of perennial fascination to readers.  Warner originally published The Dreamer's Dictionary by Lady Stearn Robinson and Tom Crobett in 1975 and it has remained in print ever since, selling nearly one million copies to date.
  • I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM...updates traditional concepts of dream interpretation with explanations for many new symbols and contemporary cultural references.
  • Kelly Sullivan is the author of DISCOVER YOUR INNER GODDESS QUEEN (Goddess Queen Unlimited) and is a popular speaker and media guest who lives in Southern California.

The Dream Project

Un What is the Dream Project?

The United Nations Millennium Development Goals in conjunction with the Women’s National Book Association will work with two sixth grade classes from Nimitz Middle School, in the inner city of Los Angeles.

For three months the students will be immersed in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs–which range from eradicating extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – these goals form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions.)

The Dream Project will begin with the students going through a time machine to the year 2015, to the time when the MDGs have been achieved. Each class will be divided into sub groups that will choose one of the eight MDGs to be their assigned goal.

The scholastic benefits of this project will be creative problem solving, public speaking, team building, negotiating, researching history, politics, science, and sociology, leadership, and, of course, their imagination.

The students will present a collaborative report on the past, with regards to the genesis of their group’s issue; the present, with regards to what is currently being done to fulfill their goal; and the future, with regards to how their goal was accomplished, what the “tipping point” was, and what life is like now, with their particular goal fulfilled.

The Goal of the Dream Project:

To empower young people to recognize themselves as leaders that behold the potential to make a positive and real contribution to the world; to instill in them social responsibility, self-esteem, and creative problem solving.

The Objectives of the Dream Project:

1. To offer actual insight toward the realization of the MDGs as we document, film, and develop a template that will be used by educators, youth leaders, and organizations committed to the fulfillment of the MDGs.  Our intention is to screen the documentary at the United Nations NGO/DPI Conference in September ’07, where selected students will attend as representatives to share what they learned and request that their reports be disseminated to the member states of the United Nations.

2. The inner city students, who are “at risk” of being recruited by gangs, drugs, and violence, will learn to relate to themselves as leaders and visionaries in the creation of a world that is safe, clean, harmonious, and prosperous for everyone. So that they will make choices and decisions in their lives beyond this project, having a ripple effect from these students, to their peers, and outward, causing a cultural consciousness of responsibility and global welfare.

In order to achieve our goal, we need your help! You can participate in The Dream Project with your tax-deductible donations made out to :

Dream decoder;
Are dreams a window into our subconscious or just meaningless entertainment while we sleep?

BYLINE: By Alexia Elejalde-Ruiz, RedEye

Soon after starting a new job at Transitions Bookplace, a Lincoln Park bookstore that specializes in the spiritual, Callie Munson had a spectacular dream.

The dream, set in Indonesia, had Munson and one of her new co-workers surfing together in an ocean filled with roaming elephants, rhinoceroses and hippos.

Lovely? Sure. Bizarre? Absolutely.

Meaningful?

That centuries-old question is still up for debate.

To Munson, 22, the dream was far more than a fanciful movie projected in her mind. She believes it reflected her trust in her new co-workers, the tranquility of her new work environment, and, perhaps, her desire to be somewhere warm just as Chicago's weather turned cold.

"I think dreams are a way for the subconscious to talk to the conscious," said Munson, who lives in Lakeview.

Munson always puts stock in her dreams and says that sometimes the subconscious messages she gleans from them help her recognize problems she's not aware of while awake. Dreaming about her ex-boyfriend, for example, made Munson realize she wasn't over him, even though consciously she'd been insisting otherwise.

Whether Munson is correct in her dream analyses depends on whom you ask.
Professional psychoanalysts and dream hobbyists believe dreams provide important insight into a person's subconscious, while some researchers believe dreams are just physiological reactions with no meaning at all.

Many sleep experts reside somewhere in the middle, uncertain about the significance of our unconscious adventures.

"I don't know if there's any empiric data or science to support whether [dreams] mean or don't mean anything," said Babak Mokhlesi, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Chicago. "It's a fuzzy and unclear area. The scientific literature is very weak."

Rosalind Cartwright, chairman of the psychology department at Chicago's Rush University, said it's unfortunate many researchers dismiss the importance of dreams.

"You miss the psychological import of what you're doing with your brain if you don't pay attention to how we use experience of the night, and how it affects the next day's feelings and methods of approaching a problem," said Cartwright, founder of the Sleep Disorder Service and Research Center at Rush.

"Often you wake up with a better idea of how to move forward, and that's not rest-- that's mental work."

Munson's co-worker at Transitions, Brian Rittenhouse, 39, believes his dreams are trying to tell him something. Rittenhouse, a singer who lives in Albany Park, said he has dreamed of being completely unprepared for an upcoming performance, with neither music nor songs memorized moments before he is supposed to take the stage.

"There is certainly part of me that is a procrastinator," Rittenhouse said.

While theories abound about why we dream, Cartwright said she thinks most dreams aim to help us regulate our moods. For example, if you go to bed angry or scared, dreaming about something in your past that made you angry or scared helps to diffuse those emotions so you wake up feeling better, Cartwright said.

"We're trained to be logical when we're awake, and in dreaming we're not very logical," Cartwright said. "In dreams, we put things together more emotionally than logically."
The illogical nature of dreams can make it hard to make sense of them.
Ashley Honig, 25, who lives in River West, said she's had a recurring dream since she was 6 years old in which she and her brother fall into the whale tank at Sea World and almost end up in the whale's mouth.

Curious to understand the dream's meaning, Honig tried to find answers on the Internet, but none of the interpretations rang true. For now, she has concluded that the stubborn dream simply represents how terrified she is in real life of sharks and whales.

Jay McCormick, director of the Chicago School of Metaphysics in Portage Park, said people can easily learn to deconstruct their dreams, and it's worthwhile because "the more you understand your dreams, the more you understand yourself."

At the School of Metaphysics, students learn that every dream is about the dreamer, and every symbol and person in the dream represents the dreamer.

The 30-year-old school, which is headquartered in Missouri and has 17 branches throughout the Midwest, teaches students to interpret symbols using the "universal language of mind"--that is, images that represent various states of being and thinking.

If you dream, for example, that you kill someone, it doesn't mean you will or want to.
"Killing someone in a dream--or someone trying to kill you--represents change," said Pam Blosser, who teaches at Chicago's School of Metaphysics. "How you feel about the killing in your dream helps you understand how you feel about the change."

Likewise, if you dream you have an affair with your boss, don't get too worried. It means there's some kind of harmony or creativity that you feel with him or her, Blosser said.
McCormick said some dreams are precognitive. Dreaming that you are in a car wreck, for example, indicates you might get sick soon, he said.

While few dreams come true, Cartwright said researchers don't know enough about what is going on in the dreamer's mind to discount their predictive value.

With better technology to track the brain's activity, she believes the next frontier of dream research will explore the transcendent possibilities of dreams.

"What are we tuned into during sleep? What information channels are open in dreaming?" Cartwright said. "I've had enough spooky things happen in the lab that I've kept an open mind about that."

SLEEPING AND DREAMING
What happens after you drift off to sleep? You probably have two hours of dreams, but you may not remember them, according to Rush University psychology professor Rosalind Cartwright.

Does everyone dream?

Yes, except in some cases of brain injury or disorders. Not everyone remembers their dreams, though. Only when you wake up during your dream do you remember what it was about.

How many dreams do we have a night?
You have about 120 minutes of dreams during a typical night's sleep, though they're not continuous. We dream mostly during REM sleep, a stage of the sleep cycle when the mind is very active. You fall into the first REM period about 90 minutes after falling asleep, and that lasts only a few minutes. After cycling through deep sleep (non-REM), each recurring REM period is longer. You could have a different dream story in each of your REM periods or there could be a theme.

What's the best way to remember your dreams?
You do most of your dreaming at the end of the night, and it's the last stage of our sleep, so if you wake up naturally, without an alarm clock, you should remember. Lingering in the memory of the dream and writing it down helps. Women are more likely to remember their dreams than men, in part because they tend to be more interested in their inner lives. You are more likely to remember your dreams when you are emotionally upset because you sleep more lightly.

SYMBOL SECRETS
What do your dreams mean? Books give varying interpretations, but most experts agree that a dream should be interpreted in the context of what's happening in the dreamer's life, using some common dream themes and symbols.

"I Had the Strangest Dream: The Dreamer's Dictionary for the 21st Century," provides an A-Z guide to discerning the meaning of dream symbols--from dreaming of AA meetings (which signifies you're taking steps in the right direction) to zucchini (which symbolizes a healthy sexual appetite).
Here's what the book, authored by clinical hypnotherapist Kelly Sullivan Walden, says about some of our more common dreams.

Flying: Represents freedom, joy, confidence, creativity, independence.
Surfing: Represents oneness with nature and your ability to ride the ebbs and flows of life with mastery and grace.

Flunking: Represents feeling inferior, being overwhelmed, or that you are not engaged in your area of expertise.
Being naked: You have a desire for honesty and intimacy, or you fear others knowing your private thoughts and feelings. How you feel about being naked influences the interpretation.

Teeth falling out: You are venting your feelings of insecurity, powerlessness, financial stress or the loss or death of a family member.

Driving: Symbolizes your ambition and drive to succeed. Whoever is in the driver's seat is influencing your direction. If you are a passenger, the dream may be telling you that you are in a state of passivity or surrender.

Forgetting: This usually indicates your fear of actually forgetting. Perhaps you are overwhelmed, or whatever you are forgetting is not very important to you.

Bombs: Symbolize transformation--old structures, ideas, patterns or relationships being blown to bits.

Paralysis: You are processing shock from a traumatic experience or loss of connection to your spirit.

Sex: Symbolizes your desire, creativity and passion. If you dream of having sex with a particular person, then you are connecting with that person.

DREAM THEATRE

 KelwithlionsDirect your dreams...direct your life

When we awaken in the morning with a dream that puzzles us, or worse, distresses us, most of us do our very best to sweep it under the rug and get on with our day.  Most of us do not have a Dream Theatre in which to work out our dreams.

What is a Dream Theatre? you ask.

When I was doing research for the book, I had the Strangest Dream, the Dreamer’s Dictionary for the 21st Century, I came across some startling data about the ways the Iroquois Indians conduct a social form of dream therapy.

The Iroquois Indians, dating back to 1100A.D., regarded dreams as the secret wishes of the soul and that it was the duty of a caring community to gather around a dreamer, help him or her recognize the soul’s wishes, and take action to honor them. Thus became their social form of dream therapy. They would act out their dreams and were allowed to go beyond the usual disciplined and moral social boundaries.  This included making love to another person’s spouse.  Such hidden desires were seen as the basis of social as well as individual problems. Allowing the expression of unconscious desires was the Iroquois way of conquering sickness of body and mind.

Upon reading about this I became inspired to create a Dream Theatre, a space for people to express their dreams in a theatrical way…to help them fulfill the intention of their dreams.  More often than not we are awakened before the dream is able to complete its intention, and thus we are left in a constant cliffhanger. I believe that the goal of our dreams is to ultimately remind us that we are whole, perfect, and complete...that all the running around all day to prove how worthy we are is just plain silly.  What would happen if we could actually extend our dreams to their natural conclusion?  If we did this often enough, perhaps we would realize on a deep level that we are victorious, empowered, magnificent beings that are truly capable of creating a heavenly world.

In the DREAM THEATRE, dreams are brought to life.  By seeing dreams acted out on a stage, you will learn how to decode the message of your dreams, and REDIRECT them to unfold in a way that reconnects you with your power, freedom, peace, and passion!

Therapeutic Dreams

Dreaming_girl_web Your Nightmares Surrounding 9/11 Can Be Therapeutic, says Dream Expert

Dream expert and author of the newly released book, “I Had the Strangest Dream…the Dreamer’s Dictionary for the 21st Century”, (Warner Books) Kelly Sullivan Walden says, “Many people tell me that are having dreams that reflect the war and the events of September 11th.  They seem to feel reassured when I tell them that this is a healthy sign."

WashresizedWalden continues, "One of the functions of your dreams is that of a washing machine.  It cleans and rinses away the debris that you have accumulated throughout the day (destructive, sabotaging, fear-based ideas and data), so that when you awaken in the morning, you can feel renewed, replenished, and capable of facing the day.  The dirtier the clothes, the more work the washing machine has to do to return you to your natural splendor.  These days we are bombarded with some terrifying imagery.  It is no wonder people are cycling this negativity through in their dreams.  I say it is a sign of a healthy subconscious mind that allows for this data to be processed in a non-violent way. If you think about it, it is a pretty miraculous function."

Kelly adamantly states, “Remember, your dreams are among your greatest allies, helping you to release non-supportive images and to come to terms with the sometimes traumatic events that are taking place in the world today. Fortunately, you don’t have to understand your dreams or remember them in order to benefit from their assistance.  However, working deeply with your dreams can accelerate and amplify your ability to grow through the stresses of modern life, and eventually glow through them.”

With this in mind, Kelly Sullivan Walden says the best way to bolster yourself to make it through these stressful times is to:

  • Make sure your body gets as much rest as possible
  • Break the habit of watching violent programming as you fall asleep
  • Read or watch life-affirming programming as you go to sleep

Chicago Tribune

Review by William Hageman

Kelly Sullivan Walden, a certified clinical hypnotherapist, spiritual counselor and dream coach (dream coach?), says she wants to help her readers "become fluent in the language of your dreams." She explains how to classify dreams and provides meanings for symbols we encounter in our dreams--nearly 3,000 of them. Even if you don't believe in dream interpretation, it's a fun book.

1. Dreams of a lemon symbolize beauty and bounty. And lemonade? Optimism.

2. Bacon? It signifies abundance (as in "bringing home the bacon").

3. Believe it or not, people do dream about the Dalai Lama; that symbolizes forgiveness, compassion and enlightenment.

4. A ladder can have several meanings. If you're climbing it, it represents advancing in your life (a ladder of success sort of thing). If you're coming down a ladder, you're coming down in life (feeling discouraged or demoted, perhaps).

5. And here's one you don't have to be an expert to figure out: Dreaming about zucchini represents a healthy sexual appetite.

Coffee_1 I am a very vivid dreamer and at times I have often wondered upon waking exactly what it was that I had just experienced. I wanted to know what the dreams meant and why I would have a particular dream. This awesome book gives me the chance to find out. I found the definitions to be widely varied and easily understandable. Ms. Sullivan Walden has provided readers with an excellent tool that will assist many other readers in comprehending at least a small part of the mysterious world of dreams. Anyone looking for a way to understand even a small part of what happens to them during a time when the body is at rest should run out and purchase this sensational book as soon as possible.

I had a really impactful dream the other night that required much reflection and reading within the pages of wisdom within "I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM". The examples within the book of people's dreams and their interpretations are not only profound, but helpful. It is in the simplicity that the profound is revealed and Kelly Sullivan Walden allows it to be a casual conversation which is the true art of communicating the complex.

Thank you for writing a truly engaging book that tickles me with feather-like beauty and quill depth instead of poking me with a sharp pointed talking stick.

“Carl Jung said every night we go to sleep, we commune with the ancestors in dreams.  By this he meant we all dream as we have always dreamt.  We use the same verbs and add nouns updated to our place and time. Well, the twentieth century unfolded stranger than the good doctor Jung ever imagined and just on the heels of our new century and millennium comes I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM...The Dreamer's Dictionary for the 21st Century. Kelly has compiled over 3,000 classic and contemporary symbols - a great many Jung and the ancestors never dreamt of.  The symbology of botox? Speed dating?  iPods?  They're in there. This work must be the most comprehensive to date on what we dream and what it means. As one who lives the strangest dream, I wholeheartedly recommend I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM - a huge work and a great one, indispensable for anyone following the Socratic dictum that an unexamined life isn't worth living.”

C.P.G. Johnson, Producer Enlightened Entertainment

“Kelly Sullivan Walden is all about empowerment, and so is her book, I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM.  I have had some strange dreams in my life; and to have Kelly pull together information from so many sources to aid in the interpretation of them is truly a gift.  Kelly has an ability to inform, and yet present that information so that it becomes a tool for self-discovery, for inner growth----and that’s exactly what she does in I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM.”

Excerpt from Book

“I had the strangest dream!” How many times have you heard that expression fly out of your mouth, and in the telling of the tale, found yourself bewildered on that mystical bridge between sleep and awake, scratching your head, asking the question, “I wonder what that means?”

Sleeping_beaut As we ponder what it all means, take heart in knowing that it is rare not to have a strange dream. In fact, we should be so grateful for our sojourn into the dream world.  As scientific evidence demonstrates, depriving a person of their dreams for several days encourages psychotic tendencies in the awakened state.  We could say that we need to dream more than we need to sleep!

Our nighttime journey begins when our conscious mind takes its bow for the day, exhausted from 16 hours of appropriate, politically correct behavior, stuffing animal instincts into man-made cubicles of efficiency and order, squelching our desire to make out with the sexy new co-worker, resisting the temptation to tell the boss to (bleep) off…dotting i’s, crossing t’s…not to mention minding our p’s and q’s until we can’t see straight.  Whew! The conscious mind collapses backstage while our subconscious mind, chomping at the bit, lunges forth onto the center stage for the Late Show of our lives where all that was suppressed by day, gets expressed by night.

Starbucks02 In our fast-paced world of globalization, double half-caf-low-cal-no-whip-soy mochachinos and turbo-speed internet access; our dreams are working overtime to keep us sane.

Dancing wildly in the grey matter of today’s dreamer are such symbols as:  blog, life-coach, laptop, terrorist, E-bay, Tivo and Starbucks, which The Dreamer’s Dictionary for the 21st Century decodes.

Instead of a horse and carriage, a modern dreamer might dream of a fuel-efficient hybrid car zipping past gridlock traffic in an HOV Lane.

Instead of penning a letter with a quill, you might dream of sitting in a cyber café e-mailing a friend. Instead of surfing the ocean blue, you might dream of surfing the web and meeting Mr. or Mrs. Right on Match.com.

Matchcom So, in addition to over 3,500 classic dream symbols, “The 21st Century Dreamer’s Dictionary” includes such contemporary symbols as: Atkins Diet, blackberry, blipvert, bling-bling, botox, buddy list, Curves, Donald Trump, Dr. Phil, DVD, e-book, frappaccino, hacker, internet, internet-café, liposuction, keyword, Kinko’s, Match.com, metro-sexual, MLM, MTV, multi-tasking, multiplex, Netflix, Oprah, rapid dating, retail therapy, ringtone, screensaver, search engine, Simon Cowell, text message, Viagra, website, and world wide web.

Understanding the symbolism behind these 21st Century words will help you keep up with your dreams that are trying desperately to keep up with you!

Our unedited, unscripted, unrated, uncensored, graphic, high speed, high tech, sometimes violent and XXX dreams toss out the G-rated niceties of our public persona.  In our nighttime dream theatre our still, small voice of intuition and authenticity gets a bullhorn and runs the show without constraints.

Frog We call them Strange Dreams because they act out the metaphors we speak when we are awake.  In our waking reality it’s common to say, “I’m so hungry I could eat a horse”, “That guy is a pain in my neck”, “You’re pulling my leg”, “How many frogs will I have to kiss before I find my prince?”, “When pigs fly!”  “After he kissed me I felt ten feet tall and I was walking on air!”  We think nothing of it when we hear these figures of speech, but when we recount a dream where we are kissing a frog while pigs are flying overhead, and we are dancing on air as high as a kite, we call it strange!

So, the mantra to keep in mind as you decode the mystery of your dreams is “Metaphors be with me!”

Dreams…a Mysterious Wake-up Call

“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.” Carl Jung

Extensive research at Harvard University, University of Chicago, Walter Reed Institute of Research, and Mount Sinai Hospital has revealed that everyone dreams between 3-9 dreams a night. It’s also estimated that we dream for a minimum of two hours every night.

If a typical lifespan is seventy years, that means we’ll spend 51,100 hours of our lives dreaming! Doesn’t it make sense to take an interest in exploring this landscape we visit for 51,100 hours of our lives?

Enlightenment So, whether you are one of those rare creatures who vividly remember their dreams, or one who only has a single recurring dream, know that your dreams are a great ally.  Dreams can indicate the obstacles blocking your greatest expression, and/or illuminate your most direct route to awareness and personal fulfillment.

Fortunately, you don’t have to understand your dreams or remember them in order to benefit from their power and influence. However, working deeply with your dreams can accelerate and amplify your ability to grow through the stresses of modern life and eventually glow through them!

Frequently Asked Dream Questions

1.) What are the benefits of understanding my dreams?

Besides helping you to improve your relationships, health, wealth, sex life, and peace of mind, understanding your dreams can give you…
a. The answers to your problems.
b. Information about how to release unhealthy baggage from the past.
c. Awareness about how to more powerfully engage in relationships.
d. Preparation for opportunities that will make you more magnetic to the people, places, and things that will improve your life.
e. An “aha” moment that could turn your confusion into fusion that could change your whole life.

2.) What does it mean if I am happily married but I continue to have “sex dreams” about the girl next-door?

Sex dreams are a very natural way to blow off steam and let our inner caveman or cavewoman go wild, so that you can awaken in the morning as the balanced, civilized, upstanding citizen that you are. Often people feel ashamed of their sex dreams, because their unedited, XXX way of being in their dreams can sometimes be vastly different than their proper, politically correct self-definition.  As it is with most of our dreams, they are seldom translated literally.  Perhaps you might consider sex as a metaphor for “joining”, "connecting”, “integrating”, or  “embracing” the qualities that you ascribe to the “girl next-door”.

3.) What does it mean if a person does not remember their dreams?

Not remembering your dreams simply means that you haven’t placed a value on remembering them before you get out of bed in the morning.  Even for people that are very good at remembering their dreams, if they rush out of bed too quickly before reviewing their dreams in their mind’s eye, then the drawbridge connecting the “Land of Nod” and the “real world” is lost, and so is the memory of the dreams.

4.) What is the best way for someone to remember their dreams?

The first step to receiving the gifts of your dreams is to:
a. Replay your dreams in your mind’s eye before getting out of bed.
b. Write them down in a dream journal or record them into a tape recorder.
c. Share your dream with a dream buddy, partner, or spouse immediately as you wake.
Once you’ve done this, see my *6-Step Dream Interpretation Formula for instructions on what to do next (you receive it for FREE when you sign up to become a member of the DREAM TEAM).

5.) What does it mean to dream about teeth falling out?

Because teeth are located in the mouth, any dream about teeth has a great deal to do with issues of communication and your ability to process, or “chew on”, the data that you have acquired throughout the day.  If you dream of losing your teeth, then you are venting your feelings of insecurity, powerlessness, financial stress, or your feelings about the loss or death of a family member.  Or, this could be a sign to clean up a communication that went awry.

6.) What does it mean to dream of flying?

Dreams of flying represent freedom, joy, expression, feeling light, confident, creative, independent, and that you are aware of a higher perspective.  You are free from physical constraints or limitations as you connect with your true spiritual essence and access your true potential.

7.) What does it mean to dream of falling?

Dreams of falling symbolize a feeling of loss of control, a lack of confidence, and that you are loosing your step as a result of not having your feet firmly planted on the earth. This dream can symbolize that you are overwhelmed with the events in your life.

8.) What does it mean when a person dreams of 21st Century Symbols?

Many of the popular devices we dream about today, like blackberries, cell phones, blogging, pod casts, etc… are about communication and a desire to connect.  So, for example if you dream of being on your cell phone, then this dream can denote a desire to connect with someone over a distance, or it can be about telepathy. See Some of the 21st Century Dream Symbols from the book...

21st Century Dream Symbols

Here Are the Most Popular 21st Century Symbols Found in “I Had the Strangest Dream!”

Botox-Dreams of botox represent a desire for a quick fix, an emotional bypass and for eternal youth. This dream may be showing you that you are operating under the false idea that if you keep the wrinkles away you keep the aging process at bay.  Consider the feeling tone. See Plastic Surgery.

Buddy list-Dreams of a buddy list, as in your on-line IM, represent your connection with friends and family.  If your buddy list is empty the dream may be suggesting that it is time to communicate with your tribe. If your buddy list is overflowing, then you may be dealing with issues of quantity versus quality.  See Text Messages, Instant Message and Friend.

CD-Dreams of a CD symbolize your ability or desire to control your emotions, people, events and the soundtrack of your life. If you are burning a CD, then this represents your ability to create what you want in life and to capture what is pleasing.  See Circle, Music and I-Tunes.

Cell phone-Dreams of a cell phone represent telepathic communication.  Significant aspects of this dream are the person you are calling, and/or who is calling you, whether or not you are able to reach him or her, and the status of your connection (four bars, three, two or one, or none). What you say or what is being said is of utmost importance.  See Text Message.

Cut and Paste-Dreams of cutting and pasting symbolize that you are editing, organizing and rearranging your thoughts and maybe even your life.  You are in the process of discerning who and what to keep and what and who to eliminate.

Donald Trump -Dreams of Donald Trump represent wealth, status, power, and perhaps a fear of being fired or a dread of having to fire someone. You are realizing the Midas Touch. See Wealth.

DVD-If you dream you are watching a DVD this reflects a high regard for the content of a clear message, and your ability to observe your life with clarity (high resolution), as in the Shamanistic practice of “soul retrieval”, whereby you witness your life, and reclaim any personal power that was lost, stolen, or given away.

E-Bay-Dreams of shopping or selling on E-Bay represent your connection with the world and with unlimited opportunity.  Pay attention to the feeling tone of this dream to see whether it is telling you to monitor your shopping, or to prepare for a great opportunity. Consider what you are shopping for and/or what you are selling. See Retail Therapy.

Frappuccino-Dreams of a Frappuccino represent a quick jolt in your spirits.  Perhaps you are mixing up frozen emotions so they can be expressed and released.  See Frozen and Espresso.

HOV Lane-Dreams of an HOV lane symbolize that you are gaining speed through life because when you are unified within yourself, the gridlock of life is eliminated.

Hybrid Car-Dreams of a fuel efficient car represent a desire to conserve energy, and are an indication that you are globally aware, mature, responsible, conscious, and mindful of natural resources, namely your natural recourses (time and money). See Car and Solar Power.

Instant Messenger (IM)-Dreams of instant messenger represent your desire to send and receive communication quickly.  This dream could be a processing dream whereby your subconscious is attempting to organize the daily events of your life, or this could represent an irritation at having your creative flow be interrupted.  See FedEx and Processing Dreams.

Internet-Dreams of the internet represent having the world at your fingertips, and your connectivity to everything, everyone, all the time; a net in which all solutions you seek are caught. See Computer.

Laptop-Dreams of a laptop computer symbolize that you are attached at the hip to your work.  Laptops can represent an extension of yourself, your power and ability to communicate. See Computer.

Life Coach-Dreams of a life coach represent your connection with your higher wisdom, authority, objectivity, and empowered viewpoint.  It would be wise to follow the guidance that is revealed in this dream.

Match.com-Dreams of match.com represent your desire to meet someone special and to expand your circle of possibilities.  This dream also signifies your awareness that you are connected to a much larger playing field than your normal day to day reality. You are looking for love, feeling lucky, and hopeful that love is on the way.  See On-Line and Wish Fulfillment Dreams.

Oprah-A dream of Oprah Winfrey represents altruism, inspiration, and that you are exalting your gifts for the benefit of all.  Synonymous with Oprah is “Remember your spirit”, becoming all that you can be, materially, physically, and spiritually.

Pilates-Dreams of Pilates represents your desire to become stronger in your core, in your second Chakra, which gives you the ability to keep your head held high, feeling confident with an tall spine, as well as an ability to become more flexible and go with the flow of life.  See Yoga and Exercise.

Rapid Dating-Dreams of rapid dating represent discernment, abundance and intuition with regards to intimacy.  Also, dreams of rapid dating represent a desire to find “the one”, to meet an intimate partner, to play the field, and/or to get “out there” in the dating pool.  Your are realizing that there are many options available to you with regards to romance, partnership and love. See Match.com.

Ringtone-Dreams of a ring tone denote your self-image, and that you are realizing that you have creative control over your life and personal expression.  As in the sound of a ring, this dream may be a call for you to pay attention to an important message that is being broadcast to you; it is up to you to see what rings true.  Consider the sound of the ringtone as an important aspect of the message of this dream.

Starbucks-Dreams of Starbucks represent a tribal ritual and a desire for community. This could also be a symbol of creative stimulation and a desire to percolate your productivity, and get a buzz on the day.

Text Message-Dreams of a text message signify telepathy and a desire to connect and to stay in touch with someone from afar.  You have a desire to get to the point, and to spell out what it is you want to communicate.

Dreams of yoga also represent your ability to be flexible, harmonious and peaceful as you stretch beyond your comfort zone.  You are gaining strength and wisdom through your ability to breathe through and overcome your life challenges.

Dreams Interpreted

Blackberry_1
David’s dream

I’m at work, sitting at my overcrowded desk, I’m looking up a number on my Blackberry, business as usual.  Suddenly, a man with a gun comes in and tells us we are all his hostages.

I think to myself,“I KNEW I should have left this job a long time ago…had I only listened to my intuition, I wouldn’t have to die here at this dreadful job!”

Just then the man with the gun wanted to know what time it was, but there were no clocks or watches in the office.  I told the man with the gun I have a clock in my car.

The gunman ordered, “OK, go check the time and come right back!”

I made sure to sneak my wallet and Blackberry into my pocket as I dashed out of the building.  Once outside, I got into my car, on the driver’s side, and drove away.
***********************************************************************************

David’s dream brought to his awareness the negative impact his work environment was having on him; the overcrowded desk, symbolized an inability to be in control of his life, and that he was under the gun to make a drastic change.  The man with the gun demonstrated his subconscious taking desperate measures, holding him hostage long enough for David to get the message that it was time for a reality check. When David saw his opportunity to leave, he took his wallet (sense of self-worth) and his Blackberry (organization, order, self-empowerment) and escaped from the building (his former identity and belief structure), and got into the driver’s seat of his car (position of power) and drove to freedom.

David hated his job of 20 years.  Even though he knew in his heart it was time to leave, he was held captive by the security it provided.  Soon after he experienced this dream, David quit his job and began working as a freelance writer, his secret passion, and has never been happier and has never looked back.
********************************************************************

Wheelchair Joanne’s dream
I was in a wheel chair at a family gathering in my childhood home, sitting alone in a corner.  A handsome man, also in a wheel chair, approached me and said that we were supposed to be together, as a couple, because we were soul mates.

I asked him why he thought we were soul mates, and he replied, “We’re both crippled.”

I told the man, “I’m so sorry, I’m not really crippled, I just like this chair.”
*******************************************************

Joanne needed some guidance understanding her dream.  She was shocked when I told her this dream was actually a breakthrough.

Her dream revealed that she was attracting intimate relationships that were based on pain and injury, symbolized by the wheelchair.

She told me that because of her sensitivity to people’s pain, often she would develop similar injuries.  Her dream was revealing that her extreme empathy was crippling her.

She was at her childhood home during a family gathering, which symbolized her role in the family as a young girl.  Joanne also revealed to me that she was a sickly child, who never felt that she received enough nurturing.  This dream uncovered that even though she was now a healthy adult, she was still relating to herself as an injured caretaker.

Ultimately this dream was a breakthrough in that it revealed her relationship patterns and demonstrated her willingness to change (“I’m sorry, I am really not crippled.”)

With this awareness, Joanne began to drastically alter her relationship patterns and began connecting with people from a place of wholeness, as well as relating to herself as a healthy, vital and powerful woman.
